Ever wonder about the types of pipes you have at home? A butt-weld fittings Malaysia kind of pipe or the PVC type of pipes? There are a few types of plumbing pipes that can be found in your home to carry water from fixtures and appliances. The experience could be a bit confusing if you’re planning to fix your pipes yourself. Hence, we are here to explain them.

  1. PEX pipe

This type of pipe is ideal for supply lines. The PEX pipe is durable and it is able to handle high water pressure supply. Additionally, it is also flexible due to its ability to weave throughout walls, ceilings, crawlspaces, and basements. It is also less costly compared to other pipe materials. The pipes are available commonly in red color for hot water and blue color for cold water.

  1. PVC pipe

The polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe is a material that is made out of white plastic that is usually used in waste lines. The pipe gained popularity due to its lightweight and simple way to work compared to traditional steel pipes.  PVC pipes are also easy to install and require little effort. Additionally, PVC pipes are also durable and affordable.

  1. Copper pipe

Just like the PEX pipe, this type of pipe is also suitable for water supply lines in homes. There are no health risks to copper pipes compared to other materials such as plastics that can lead to leaching. Plus, the copper pipe is durable and can be cut easily with a hacksaw or a tubing cutter. However, there is a catch – it’s rather costly.

  1. ABS pipe

The acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) pipe is ideally used for drain and vent lines. Looking almost like the PVC pipe, the ABS pipe is made out of thermoplastic resin except is black colored and softer. Additionally, the pipe is durable; however, exposure to the sun could lead it to warm and degrade. Hence, it is an affordable choice.

  1. Flexi pipe

This type of pipe is ideal for connections to appliances, like water heaters, sinks, and toilets. It’s called the Flexi type due to its flexible capability and it is made out of stainless steel. It is not recommended to be used inside walls or floors. It is durable, however, there have been cases where it could fail after years of usage. Unfortunately, it is quite expensive, however, you find little use for this type of pipe.
